Excerpt from Fire and Sword in Shansi: The Story of the Martyrdom of Foreigners and Chinese Christians
The history of subsequent events in Shansi is brought up to date, special reference being made to the circumstances which led to the return of the Protestant missionaries to the province on the invitation of the then Governor Ts'eu Ch'un Hsuan; the establishment of the College of Western Learning; and the settlement of the Indemnity question.
In Chapter V. Will be found, in addition to memorial sketches of all those connected with the Shou Yang Mission, a striking address delivered by the late Rev. Geo. B. Farthing shortly before his martyrdom, and which may be regarded as his last message; together with several letters and diaries hitherto unpublished in England.
